CPF Director Bob Shrum: “This is an assault on the Constitution. Nothing like this has happened in our collective national memory. These are not protestors. They are seditionists. They must be removed from the Capitol. The Congress must complete the process of counting the electoral votes. Nothing less is at stake than the fate of our democracy.”

CPF Executive Director Kamy Akhavan: “What happened today is unprecedented in American history. An unruly mob, many of them brandishing weapons and Confederate flags, burst the barricades of the Capitol; the Vice President, the House, and the Senate had to be evacuated. This lawlessness inflicts terrible wounds on our country and gives aid and comfort to our adversaries. We look to our leaders and each other – Republicans as well as Democrats – to demand an end to the violence and the completion of the peaceful transition of power from President Trump to President-Elect Biden. Democracy must prevail.”
